Improving Student Academic Writing |
|
Friday, 27 June 2008 |
The NCWP, in conjunction with the California Writing Project, is pleased to offer the Improving Student Academic Writing program to north state teachers at the secondary and post-secondary levels. An ongoing, multi-year project, ISAW engages critical issues in the effective teaching of academic writing. Areas of inquiry include:
- What is the nature and purpose of academic writing?
- How can I demystify analytical writing for my students?
- How do I strengthen students’ critical reading skills?
- How can I help my students write analytical essays that are clear, compelling, contestable, and complex?
- What effective strategies can I use to help students to explore the relationship between their ideas and the writer’s while demonstrating insight into the implications of the texts they read?
- How can the ISAW improvement continuum help me assess and guide my students’ understanding of academic writing, inform my teaching practice, and develop next steps in my instruction?
The ISAW Brochure has full details of the program.
